The Significant parts of Microscope

The compound light microscope main function is to magnify micro organisms and making it available for us to view. One of the most common specimens under the compound microscope is the cell. The compound light microscope is composed of two lenses namely the ocular lens and the objective lens, they function hand in hand to give us a clear view of the specimen we wish to view. The microscopes should be handled with proper all the time and every microscopist must be familiar with the parts and functions of the microscopes before going further in the experiment.

The significant parts of the compound light microscope are explained carefully in this article. The first one is the Ocular lens or commonly called as the eyepiece lens, the magnification of the Ocular lens is 10x, the next important part is the Objective lens, the magnification will depend on what is marked on the sides of the objectives. The Arm of the microscope is used as the handle it also supports the upper part of the microscopes. The Microscope base holds the entire microscope and prevents the microscope from falling. The revolving nosepiece as described in this article is a part where the objectives are attached and the body tube connects the eyepiece lens to the nosepiece. The Microscope stage is the one responsible in holding the microscope glass slide and stage slips, this part is moveable as well. The coarse focus adjustment is the one you need to adjust when you want to move the stage closer to the objectives. The other knob that will help you if you want to focus on the slide specimen is the Fine focus adjustment. The Iris diaphragm functions as the light regulator and the Abbe condenser is the one responsible in concentrating the light that will pass through the specimen. And lastly the Substage light is the one that assist in the illumination of light to the specimen.

Some tips on how to calculate the magnification is also mentioned in this Article. It is as simple as getting the magnification of the ocular lens and multiply it with the magnification of objective lens then you can achieve the total magnification.

If you don’t know how to prepare wet mounts then worry not because this article also provided some information on how to prepare wet mounts. It is necessary to prepare wet mounts when we use a compound light microscope.
